Tierra ROja
Tierra Roja is a monograph by Leobardo Bañuelos Jr that examines place, inheritance, and visual memory through the lens of rural Mexico. Shot in his father’s birthplace, Pochotitán, Nayarit, the work engages in the material and cultural landscape known for its distinctive red clay soil. The 72-page book omits written narrative in favor of a sustained visual study, documenting intergenerational life on the family ranch. Themes of labor, kinship, and tradition emerge, offering a portrait of a community shaped by continuity and resilience.
Tierra Roja builds upon Bañuelos’ earlier project Pocho (2019), continuing his exploration of diasporic identity and the intersections of personal and collective memory.
